I get my assignment and we go from there…

My father worked for American for 23 years, and he really introduced me to aviation. From then on, I always wanted a career in aviation. One day I was talking to a mechanic, and he said, “You know, you could be helping people stay safe working on jets.” And I thought — you know what? I want to do that. I’d love to go to school to be a mechanic.

I worked as a ramp agent for about four, four and a half years, going to school while working on the ramp. Then I transferred into maintenance. As soon as I got my A&P, I started working at the American Airlines line hangar here in Charlotte.

I get my assignment, and we go from there. We’ll do paperwork once everything’s wrapped up, and make sure that plane is good to go for the morning flights. I love that feeling — knowing that what I do is helping everybody be safe when they travel, whether that’s to a wedding, a vacation, or any other journey. What I do directly impacts how they get there.

AIM was great. The instructors were always there for you. They cared, and they made sure you understood the knowledge and information they were teaching — especially during the hands-on portions. They just want you to succeed, and they’re always there for you.

When I walked through the doors here for the first time to begin training, I knew: this is where I want to be. This is where I want to spend the rest of my career. It’s awesome coming into the hangar and seeing the light shine off these beautiful aircraft we get to work on. I’m just so thrilled to be here.
