Course Information

 

This extensive two day course, exclusively offered at AIM, will contain everything you need to know about the unmanned aviation field.  Learn to understand, plan, strategize, operate, test, and control these hi-tech machines. Whether for commercial or personal knowledge, this course will open a whole new field to the participants.

Attendance Policy: This is an avocational course and is given over a 2 day period. Attendance is required in order to pass the course and receive a certificate.

Grading/Evaluation: This is a pass/fail course. Attendance/participation = 50% of overall grade and final flight exam = 50% of overall grade. 

This course is avocational in nature and is not included in ACCSC’s scope of accreditation – not Title IV eligible. For more consumer information, please click here.

Course Objectives

 

Unmanned Aircraft Systems - Part 1

The introduction to Unmanned Aviation course will expose students to key aspects of the UAS industry, with a focus on the operator role and mission. Over two days, students will learn the history of UAS’s, their mission, the developing regulations, and explore future opportunities in this growing field of aviation. This course will prepare you to take the FAA UAS aeronautical test or recurrent test for former military UAS operators which would allow them to obtain their operator certificate from the FAA.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems - Part 2

The UAS Operator and Flight Training course will teach students basic and advanced airmanship skills with a focus on aerial photography with mission planning and execution that can be applied to agriculture, real estate, and infrastructure inspection jobs. Over two days, students will learn the basics of flight, preflight, mission planning techniques and progress to advanced/skilled maneuvers. This course will help students build operational experience and real time decision making skills under the guidance of seasoned instructors. They will be prepared to confidently use their UAS operator certificate for commercial or personal use.

Brennan Haltli

Brennan Haltli is a Principal Engineer at The MITRE Corporation’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development. He holds a Bachelor of Science Aerospace Engineering degree from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Science Systems Engineering degree from the Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Haltli is a certified flight instructor and holds a Commercial Multi Engine Instrument Rated pilots license with +600 hours. Since 2003, Mr. Haltli has worked with NASA and the FAA to develop new technology and procedures to make manned and unmanned aircraft operations safer. In 2015, Mr. Haltli created Unmanned Aerial Solutions LLC to provide UAS pilot flight training and education services.
